Introduction
Gary Private (born 23 March 1954) is an American film and television actor and singer and drummer. He is known for his roles in Son of a Don (2010,) Killer Priest (2011,) and Killer Bill (2013.) In the 1970s to 1980s, he was a drummer for various New York-based rock bands.
Early life
Private was born on 23 March 1954 in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, New York. He is of Italian descent.
He graduated from James Madison High School, Brooklyn, New York, in 1975. In the years 1974-1975, he studied business administration from Brooklyn College, Brooklyn.
Career
Music
Private started off in the 1970s as a musician, playing drums for New York City-based band, "Legs Latreau." With Legs Latreau, and other bands, he performed at various renowned New York City venues such as Max's Kansas City, CBGB's, Studio 54, and Coventry.
Once he got to perform for Calvin Klein's birthday at Studio 54, following which he was signed by Atlantic Records and released a remake of the Four Tops song "Reach Out, I'll Be There." In 1983, working with Atlantic Records, he released his five track album, Secret Love. In 1985, he co-composed music for Playboy's video, Girls of Rock & Roll. Directed by David Winters, the video featured various female singers and models including Kimberly McArthur, Ava Cherry, Cheryl Rixon, and Teri Weigel.
Three years later, in 1988, he composed music for The Magical World of Disney. The show, an extension of The Wonderful World of Disney (1969–1979,) marked the return of the host, Michael Eisner, occasionally interacting with cast or characters from that night's program, such as Betty White and Johnny Cash.
Over the years, Private has collaborated with various famed musicians of the time, in particular with T. M. Stevens, Stan Harrison, Arno Hecht, Elliott Randall, Bob Kulick, and Kenny Aaronson.
Acting
Private moved to Los Angeles in 1985, initially working in hospitality field, gradually switching to Hollywood.
As an actor, Private made his debut in 2006 with an unaccredited role of an FBI agent in "The Woman in the Sand" episode of the television series, Bones. In 2008, he was seen in minor roles in The Tale of a Suicidal Narcoleptic (directed by John Flores) and Stiletto (directed by Nick Vallelonga).
In 2010, Private was seen in a leading role in John Flores-directed comedy, Fear of Flying. The following year, in 2011, he was cast as "Father Giuseppe," appearing alongside Vanessa Knight, Nathaniel Nose and Damian Chapa in Killer Priest (directed by Damian Chapa.)
In 2019, he was seen playing the role of a homicide detective in Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt-starrer, Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood (directed by Quentin Tarantino.)
Most recently, Private was seen in the role of "Carmine" in The Sauna Slaughter episode of hit television series, Solve. His most recent feature film, Janek Ambros' comedy, Mondo Hollywoodland, is slated to release in July 2020.
