Introduction
Clive Halliday (5 May 1900 - 22 January 22, 1989) was an American film and television actor. He was active from the mid-1930s through the 1960s and is known for his roles in One Step Beyond (1960,) Premature Burial (1962,) and At the End of the Rainbow (1976.)
Early life
Clive Halliday was born Frederick Clive Loch Halliday on 5 May 1900 in Essex, England to Frederick Loch Halliday and Eleanore Mary Charlotte.
He joined the Royal Navy, the UK's naval warfare force, on 15 January 1914, as a Cadet. Rising through the ranks, he became a Midshipman on 21st May 1917, Acting Sub Lieutenant on 15th January 1919, and Lieutenant (Emergency) on 15th September 1922. A few years later, he moved to the United States to pursue a career in acting.
Acting career
Clive Halliday made his acting debut in 1936 with a minor role in Henry King-directed drama, Lloyds of London. The following year he was seen in a secondary role in Bobby Connolly's short musical The Littlest Diplomat.
In 1958, he made his television debut in No Boat for Four Months episode of the television series Schlitz Playhouse. The same year he was seen in the role of "Sydney" in Mutineers from Hell episode of television western The Californians.
In 1960, he was seen portraying a doctor in The Siege of Troy episode of Adventures in Paradise; as "Wilson" in The Haunting episode of One Step Beyond; as "Lord Sevringham" in Mark Robson-directed drama film From the Terrace; and as an Australian Major General in Richard Murphy-directed war drama The Wackiest Ship in the Army.
In 1962, he played one of the primary roles in Roger Corman-directed horror/mystery Premature Burial. Halliday was seen in the character of "Judson" alongside Ray Milland (as Guy Carrell,) Hazel Court (as Emily Gault,) Richard Ney (as Miles Archer,) and Heather Angel (as Kate Carrell.)
Two year later, he was seen in the role of "Mr. Mousley" in the award-winning fantasy/comedy Mary Poppins. For the film, he also performed the song "Fidelity Fiduciary Bank" (uncredited.)
Halliday was last seen on the silver screen in 1969, in the role of Butler in The Comic.
Personal life
Clive Halliday married Utah-native Myrtle Smith Halliday (Dec 7, 1901 - Mar 19, 1992) on 21 February 1940, in Los Angeles, California. They did not have any children.
Death
Clive Halliday died on 22 January 1989, aged 88. He was buried at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park & Mortuary in Salt Lake County, Utah.
