Bill Murto

Bill Murto is an American entrepreneur known for co-founding Compaq Computer Corporation with Jim Harris and Rod Canion in 1982.

Before co-founding Compaq, the three co-founders worked at Texas Instruments as senior managers. Initially, they had considered founding a Mexican restaurant and then a hard disk drive company, but they ultimately decided to create a new personal computer company that would make portable, 100% IBM compatible PCs, but with better features and performance than other IBM clones on the market. They received backing from venture capitalist Benjamin M. Rosen, who became chairman of the board of Compaq.
