Biography
James M. Harris is an American businessman, who, along with Rod Canion and Bill Murto, founded Compaq Computer Corporation, in 1982.
Before co-founding Compaq, the three co-founders worked at Texas Instruments as senior managers. Initially, they had considered founding a Mexican restaurant and then a hard disk drive company, but they ultimately decided to create a new personal computer company that would make portable, 100% IBM compatible PCs, but with better features and performance than other IBM clones on the market. They received backing from venture capitalist Benjamin M. Rosen, who became chairman of the board of Compaq.
Harris resigned from the company in 1991.
