Introduction

Yuri Oliveira Ribeiro (born 24 January 1997) is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays as a left-back for S.L. Benfica.

Club career

Born in Vieira do Minho, Ribeiro started playing football at Escola Os Craques when he was 9. At age 13, he joined Braga's youth academy, where he spent two years before joining Benfica youth system. He won the 2012–13 Portuguese Juvenis Championship.

On 29 May 2015, he made his debut for Benfica B, starting in a Segunda Liga match win (2–1) against Vitória de Guimarães B.

He started the following season as a back-up to Pedro Rebocho but was called to action when Rebocho injured himself at Varzim.

International career

Ribeiro represented Portugal in the 2014 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, helping them reach the semi-finals, where they lost to eventual winners, England.

On 7 July 2016, Ribeiro was selected by the under-19s for the European championship in Germany.

Personal life

His father is a former goalkeaper and his older brother, Romeu Ribeiro, also played for Benfica youth teams.
