Biography

Yannis Hamilakis is a Greek archaeologist who is currently the Joukowsky Family Professor of Archaeology and Professor of Modern Greek Studies at Brown University. He received his BA in History and Archaeology from the University of Crete in 1988 and his PhD from the University of Sheffield in 1995. From 2000–2016, he taught at the University of Southampton. Hamilakis has also written three books, including a 2007 volume entitled The Nation and its Ruins: Archaeology, Antiquity and National Imagination in Modern Greece.
