Theopompus

Theopompus was a Greek historian and rhetorician who lived during the 4th century BC. He was born in Chios and later moved to Athens.

Theopompus is most well-known for his historical works, which include "Hellenics", a continuation of the history of Thucydides, and "Philippica", a history of the reign of King Philip II of Macedon.

Theopompus was considered a master of rhetoric and his writing style was characterized by its eloquence and vivid descriptions. He also used dramatic and engaging narrative techniques to captivate his readers.

Theopompus' writings provided valuable insights into the political and military events of his time. They also served as important sources for later historians, including Diodorus Siculus and Plutarch.

Unfortunately, the majority of Theopompus' writings have been lost over time and only fragments and summaries of his works survive. This is a common fate for many ancient texts, as they were often copied by hand and susceptible to damage and loss.
