Robert Lax

Robert Lax (1915–2000) was an American poet known for his association with the Beat Generation and his friendship with Thomas Merton.

Lax was born on November 30, 1915, in Olean, New York.

After leaving Columbia University without a degree, Lax joined the circle of friends and writers that included Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, and William Burroughs. He was also strongly associated with Thomas Merton, who became a Trappist monk.

Lax is best known for his poetry, including his collection "21 Pages," which consists of 21 poems in which each poem is printed on a single page.

Lax's writing style evolved over time, with his later works becoming simpler and more focused on spiritual themes. He also experimented with minimalist poetry and often used short, simple sentences and phrases.
