Robert E Thompson

Robert E. Thompson is known for his work in the field of air traffic control and aviation safety. He served as the Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) from 1984 to 1987.

Robert E. Thompson received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Physics from the University of Oklahoma in 1954. Later, in 1971, he earned a Master of Science degree in Aeronautical Systems from the University of West Florida.

Before serving as the Administrator of the FAA, Robert E. Thompson held several positions related to air traffic control. He worked as an air traffic controller, supervisor, and manager. He also served as the Director of Air Traffic Service and Deputy Administrator at the FAA.

During his tenure as the Administrator of the FAA, Robert E. Thompson focused on enhancing aviation safety. He implemented the Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) to reduce mid-air collisions. He also played a significant role in the development and implementation of the Advanced Automation System (AAS) to modernize air traffic control.

After serving as the Administrator of the FAA, Robert E. Thompson joined the private sector. He worked as an executive with several aerospace companies, including Lockheed Martin and Loral Space & Communications. He also served on various boards and committees related to aviation and aerospace industry.
