Quiet Luke
Introduction
Alexander Luke Bahta known professionally as Quiet Luke, is an American singer, songwriter, multi instrumentalist and record producer based in New York City.
Early life
Bahta was born in Broward County, in a suburb north of Miami, Florida. His mother enrolled him in piano lessons when he was around five years old.
He chose the name Quiet Luke around the age of 16 as he was gaining interest in Eastern religions. Talking to The Fader in 2016, he said "I liked the idea of sitting in a corner being contemplative, being a better listener than a speaker."
Career
Bahta graduated from NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music in 2017 after releasing his debut single "Where U Were" and debut EP, Beholden in 2016. He released his next single "I Wanna Go" and another EP, Your Happy Place in 2017. After a seemingly uneventful 2018, he released his debut album, 21st Century Blue, on December 4, 2019.
Musical style and influences
In an interview for Crack Magazine, Quiet Luke cites influences such as Michael Jackson, Antonio Vivaldi, Jimi Hendrix and Sade. As for style, Bahta says "[his] music [belongs] in the canon of glam, rock in general, P-funk, Japanese aesthetics, and sci-fi".
Recognition
In January 2020, Quiet Luke was recognized by Milk magazine as a member of their Next-Gen series, which highlights "the 10 people we believe will have the greatest impact on the art/music/fashion/activism spheres in that year."
