Michael Rockefeller

Michael Rockefeller disappeared in 1961 after a canoe he and Dutch anthropologist Rene Wassing were in overturned off the southwest coast of Netherlands New Guinea. Wassing swam ashore for help after their boat capsized, but Rockefeller decided to stay behind and float on a fuel can. He was never seen again.

Michael Rockefeller was an aspiring anthropologist and avid art collector. He had a strong interest in indigenous art and culture, particularly the art of the Asmat people of New Guinea.

The Rockefeller family is one of the most influential and wealthy families in the United States. They are known for their prominent role in the American oil industry, as well as their philanthropy and contributions to the arts, education, and medicine.

Although his life was cut short at the age of 23, Michael Rockefeller accomplished much in his short life. He was a graduate of Harvard University and was dedicated to furthering his knowledge of indigenous art and culture. He embarked on several expeditions to New Guinea to study and collect Asmat art.

Despite extensive search efforts, Michael Rockefeller's body was never found. There have been various theories and speculations about his disappearance, including the possibility that he may have drowned, been attacked by sharks, or been taken captive by indigenous tribes. However, his fate remains a mystery.
