Introduction
Michael Anastasio Murphy (30 September 1941 – 17 March 2019) was an English rugby union and professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1960s and 1970s. He played club level rugby union (RU) for Waterloo R.F.C., and representative level rugby league (RL) for Wales and Lancashire, and at club level for Leigh (Heritage №), Barrow, St Helens, Bradford Northern, Wagga Wagga (in New South Wales, Australia), Tonneins XIII (in France) and St. Jacques XIII (in France) as a prop, i.e. number 8 or 10, during the era of contested scrums.

Mick Murphy won caps for Wales (RL) while at Bradford Northern in the 1975 Rugby League World Cup against France, New Zealand, and France, in 1977 against France, and while at St. Jacques XIII, France in 1979 against France.
