Introduction
Mark Mathews is an Australian professional Big wave surfer. Mathews has competed on the ASP World Tour and is featured in the 2011 documentary Fighting Fear.
Early career
Mathews grew up surfing at Maroubra, New South Wales with fellow Bra Boys the Abberton brothers.
Big waves
Mathews transition to big waves has seen him carve a niche in the sport as one of the top big wave surfers in the world. Mathews has surfed many of the world's heaviest and biggest wavesincluding Teahupo'o, The Right and Shipstern Bluff.
Red Bull Cape Fear 2014
Mathews and fellow professional surfer Ryan Hipwood organised the Red Bull Cape Fear event in August 2014.
Film and Television
Fighting Fear focus' on the friendship of Mathews and Richie Vaculik who have also featured on the ABC's Australian Story and The Crew.
Mathews featured alongside Kelly Slater and Richie Vaculik in Australian big wave films Journey and Encoded (2014).
