Introduction
Mark Kent is an American entrepreneur, philanthropist, author and speaker.
Career
Mark Kent is known for his background as an entrepreneur in the healthcare industry, where he has worked for over 20 years. His father was a family medical doctor, and his mother was a patent attorney. Kent took a similar path, obtaining undergraduate degrees in both Nursing and Finance at the University of Southern California (USC). He received an MBA from Purdue University.
Post-undergrad, Kent and a friend started their first company Network Connections Group, a recruiting company with a focus on the IT industry. The company grew from three to 117 employees in the first three years with large contracts from IBM, Enterprise Rent-A-Car and MasterCard International, after which they sold the company to a larger firm. Shortly after, Kent joined a start-up Spectra Care, which provided home-based healthcare and home hemodialysis. He became an owner of the company, helping to get it on the provider lists of large health insurance companies, such as Humana, UnitedHealth Group, and Aetna. In 2004, Kent sold his ownership interest in Spectra Care to a group called Renal Care Partners, and took a position as a regional manager at Humana. He then became the market vice president of the Ohio and Indiana Senior Products segment of Humana’s East Central Region. In 2011, Kent was promoted to lead CAC-Florida Medical Centers, a network of medical centers in South Florida. In 2014, Kent served as regional president of all Humana-owned, Florida-based primary care practices, which included CAC-Florida, MetCare and Continuacare. – comprising 58 medical centers across the state, a $1.2 billion organization with 2,000 employees and more than 200 physicians. Kent left his role at Humana’s practices to become the CEO of Women’s Health Care in Evansville, Indiana in 2015.
Kent is a Six Sigma Master Black Belt, a Fellow of American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and a Fellow of American College of Medical Practice Executives (FACMPE).
Author and speaker
Kent released his first book in October 2014. The book, entitled Wow Moments - Turning Everyday Experiences Into Extraordinary Events, is about increasing revenue by focusing on exceeding customer expectations through an engaged workforce. Wow Moments became a best seller with sold over 120,000 copies its first year. Kent released a podcast by the same name, “Wow Moments” through iTunes.
Kent has written many articles on business habits and behavior change, team building, and entrepreneurship, and been featured in multiple publications, including The Miami Herald, Huffington Post, South Florida Business Journal.
Kent has been a keynote speaker at numerous professional and business groups, ranging from Toyota, which was looking to better connect with customers, to a consortium of college and university leaders who wanted input on how to structure programs to better prepare students for the future job market.
Philanthropist
Kent founded Foster Children’s United Society (FOCUS), a private nonprofit foundation that has successfully sponsored many foster children by providing school supplies and scholarships for their four-year degrees at several universities.
In 2014, he partnered with United Capital Management to offer a $1M achievement and need-based scholarship for undergraduate students of African American and Hispanic heritage pursuing Business or Nursing degrees at the University of Miami, where Kent was an adjunct professor, and Purdue University, Kent’s alma mater.
He has also participated in mission trips to Honduras, Guatemala, and Jamaica, as well as helped to build a school in Haiti.
