Koit Toome

Koit Toome (born 3 January 1979) is an Estonian singer and musical actor.

In late 1994, a highly successful pop duo Code One, consisting of Koit Toome and Sirli Hiius was formed by the producer Mikk Targo. A long run of top hits in Estonian music charts were to follow until 1998, when the duo split.

In 1998, Koit Toome represented Estonia at the Eurovision Song Contest, held in Birmingham. He finished 12th with 36 ponts with the song "Mere lapsed". The same year he recorded his debut solo album of mostly self-penned material on it. Toome has released five albums all together, both as a solo artist and with Code One.

In 2007 he won Tantsud tähtedega (Dancing with the Stars) with Kertu Tänav.

In March 2010, he released Koit Toome first studio album, named "Kaugele siit" ("Far from here").

Koit Toome has also embarked on a voice acting career, dubbing animated films. He provided the Estonian voice for Lightning McQueen in the Disney movie Cars among others.

In 2016, Koit Toome is talking part in Eesti Laul in a duet with Laura Põldvere to represent Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kiev.

Koit Toome has played a number of important roles in stage musicals in his native Estonia and with touring companies.

His debut was Alfred in Tanz der Vampire (Tallinn, 2000), followed by Marius of Les Misérables (Tallinn, 2001), Chris in Miss Saigon (Tallinn, 2002, reprised in Helsinki City Theatre) and Tony in West Side Story (Tartu, 2005). Leading roles in Chess, Rent and Hair were to follow in Estonia and Germany.

As of the fall of 2014, he was starring as Raoul in "The Phantom of the Opera" in theatre Vanemuine, taking over the role of "Phantom" in 2016 from its originator, Stephen Hansen.

Toome comes from a prominent family, with his uncle Indrek Toome the Prime Minister of Estonia (1988–1990). Koit is a father of one, a daughter. As of 2016, the family are expecting their second child to be born in 2017.
