Introduction
John Vander Woude (born in Paramount, California ) is a Republican Idaho State Representative since 2010 representing District 21 in the A seat. He previously served the district in 2007 and 2008.
Vander Woude's daughter, Lori Den Hartog, also a Republican, is currently serving in the Idaho Senate. This marked the first time a father and daughter have served together in the Idaho legislature.
Early life and career
Vander Woude graduated high school and served in the United States Army from 1968 until 1970, and worked as a dairy farmer until he retired.
Elections
- 2012 Re-districted to 22A, Vander Woude was unopposed in the May 15, 2012, primary election and won with2,132 votes; he is unopposed for the November 6, 2012, general election to succeed Richard Wills.
- 2006 With the decision of 21A Representative Bill Sali to instead run for the Idaho's 1st congressional district for the U.S. House of Representatives, Vander Woude won the open seat's four-way May 23, 2006, Republican primary with 1,640 votes (38.9%); he was unopposed in the November 7, 2006, general election and won with 13,635 votes.
- 2008 Vander Woude lost the May 27, 2008, Republican primary to challenger Rich Jarvis by 65 votes. Jarvis won the November 4, 2008, general election with 16,798 votes (64.0%) against Sharon L. Fisher (D).
- 2010 Vander Woude won the May 25, 2010, Republican primary with 2,740 votes (47.7%) in a three-way race against incumbent Representative Rich Jarvis and Michael D. Roy. He won the November 2, 2010, general election with 13,361 votes (71.1%) against Sharon L. Fisher (D).
