

John Largess
Introduction
John Largess is an American violist.
Early life and education
Largess began playing viola at the age of 12 while living in Boston, Massachusetts and attending state's public schools and Symphony Hall, Boston where he studied viola with Michael Zaretsky. He also studied viola at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel where he was also an avid participant of archaeological excavations in Greece, Israel, and Jordan. In 1995 he graduated with bachelor's degree in classical archeology from Yale School of Music and immediately joined Colorado String Quartet as interim violist, touring both United States and Canada.
Career
In 1996 Largess joined Charleston Symphony Orchestra where he was later appointed as a principal violist, a position which he held until he joined MirĂ³ Quartet of the University of Texas at Austin's Sarah and Ernest Butler School of Music in 1997.
In 2018 he performed for the Syracuse Friends of Chamber Music and then spoke to Love Triangle's host Diane Jones about the program and the relationships between Clara and Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms. The same year, he and Joshua Gindele played Beethoven's Opus 131 string quartet.
John Largess is a member of the La Jolla Music Society and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.
