Isolde Kostner

Isolde Kostner (born 20 March 1975) is an Italian former Alpine skier who won two bronze medals at the 1994 Winter Olympics and 1 silver medal at 2002 Winter Olympics. She was Italian flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the 2002 Olympics.

Kostner also won two Gold Medal in Super-G at the Alpine Ski World Championships (1996 and 1997), and in 2001 and 2002 she won the World Cup for Downhill.

Her first win of a World Cup Race (downhill on January 29th, 1994, at Garmisch-Partenkirchen) did come unexpected but was overshadowed because Ulrike Maier was killed.

Kostner was born in Bolzano. Her cousin and goddaughter is Carolina Kostner, the 2012 World champion and 2014 olympic bronze medalist in figure skating.

It was a great surprise when she did announce her prompt retirement on January 10, 2006 - and reasons for it it were also a great surprise: She said she will become a mother (her son David was born on July 9, 2006). Three months later, on October 9, she was married to Werner Perathoner, the couple and the son are living in Wolkenstein, in Italian language " Selva di Gardena ", in English language Sëlva. (Werner Perathoner is not to be confused with the former alpine skiing speed racer Werner Perathoner, born in 1967). On April 20, 2008, another son, Gabriel, was born.
