

Howard Winfield
Introduction
Howard Neil Winfield, MD, FACS, FRCS, is a Canadian-American professor in the Department of Urology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and director of Laparoscopic, Robotic and Minimally Invasive Urologic Surgery at the West Alabama Urology Associates.
Education and career
Originally from Montreal, Canada, Howard Winfield received B.A. and M.D. degrees from Colgate and McGill Universities respectively. In 1984 he completed residency in urology and then had a two-year fellowship in endourology at Washington University in St. Louis, UCLA and University of Minnesota. He began practicing laparoscopic surgery in 1988 and later became the first physician to perform urologic laparoscopy, which led to world's first laparoscopic partial nephrectomy in 1991.
From 1991 to 2012 he served on board of directors at various positions, including Secretary and Executive Board member of the American Urological Association and following the service became its President.
In 2012 he conducted free colorectal cancer screening at the Lewis and Faye Manderson Cancer Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
