Biography
Harriet Bowell (1829-1884) was the wife of the fifth prime minister of Canada, Mackenzie Bowell.
Harriet was born as Harriet Louisa Moore, in 1829, in Belleville, Ontario, Canada. She married Mackenzie Bowell, a newspaper publisher and politician, on December 23, 1847. The couple had five sons and four daughters.
Harriet died on April 2, 1884 –– at the time her husband was minister of customs. Ten years later, in 1984, Mackenzie served as the fifth prime minister of Canada, in office from 1894 to 1896.
