Introduction
Giuseppe Caire (* 1965 in Turin) ist ein italienischer Nachrichtentechniker.
Caire studierte Nachrichtentechnik am Polytechnikum in Turin mit dem Abschluss 1990 und an der Princeton University mit dem Master-Abschluss 1992. Er wurde 1994 am Polytechnikum in Turin promoviert und forschte als Post-Doktorand für die ESA am ESTEC in Noordwijk. Danach war er Assistenzprofessor am Polytechnikum in Turin, Dozent in Parma und Professor am Institut für Mobile Kommunikation des Institut Eurécom in Sophia-Antipolis. Anschließend war er Professor an der Viterbi School of Engineering der University of California, Los Angeles. 2014 trat er eine Humboldt-Professur an der TU Berlin an. Dort wirkt er auch am Heinrich-Hertz-Institut.
Er entwickelte unter anderem Verfahren der Codierten Modulation (BICM, Bit Interleaved Coded Modulation), die breite Anwendung in der drahtlosen Kommunikation fanden (Wifi, Mobilfunk u. a.).
1998 bis 2001 war er Mitherausgeber der IEEE Transactions on Communications und 2001 bis 2003 der IEEE Transactions on Information Theory. 2005 wurde er Fellow des IEEE und 2011 Präsident der IEEE Informations Theory Society. Er gehört zu den hochzitierten Wissenschaftlern bei Thomson-Reuters.
