Eric S. Yuan (Chinese: 袁征; pinyin: Yuán Zhēng, born 1969/1970) is an American billionaire businessman, and the founder and CEO of cloud-based Zoom Video Communications.
Early life
He is the son of mining engineers, was born and raised in Tai'an, Shandong Province. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in applied mathematics and computer science from Shandong University of Science and Technology. Yuan moved to the US in the mid-1990s, after trying nine times to obtain a visa.
Career
In 1997, Yuan joined WebEx, which was acquired by Cisco Systems in 2007 and he became vice president of engineering.
As of June 2019, Yuan's shareholding in Zoom is worth US$3.7 billion.
Personal life
Yuan married at age 22, while he was still a master's student.
