J. Thomas Lambrecht (*22.05.1950 in Heidelberg) is a Swiss-German oral- and maxillofacial surgeon with a degree for regional facial plastic surgery.
Life and Career
Dr. Lambrecht received his American High School diploma in 1968 during his American Field Service (AFS) scholarship at Carman High School Flint, Michigan, he completed his primary education with the maturity exam (Abitur) at the Karl Friedrich Gymnasium in Mannheim.
In 1969 he enrolled in medical studies at the University de Liège in Belgium. Later he pursued studies in Dentistry at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz where he received his post graduate degree in dentistry (Dr. med.dent., DMD equivalent) 1977 and Dr. of medicine (Dr. med., MD equivalent) 1980 .
During the early 70s he worked as a student trainee at the Second German Television Broadcast (ZDF) in the news department (Heute) in Wiesbaden (Taunus Film Studios). 1976/1977 he was a resident for Oral Surgery at the University of Mainz and 1979/80 an intern for surgery, general medicine and otorhinolaryngology at the town hospital Wiesbaden.
Dr. Thomas Lambrecht pursued his clinical and academic studies as a resident in the department of Oral- and Maxillofacial surgery at the Christian Albrecht University in Kiel from 1980 until 1991. Since 1991 Lambrecht is full professor and chairman of the Department of Oral Surgery, Oral Radiology and Oral Medicine, University of Basel (Switzerland).
J. Thomas Lambrecht is married to Dr. Sabine Lambrecht, they have three grown up children and four grandchildren.

Clinical Activities
Prof. Lambrecht’s clinical activities are oral and implant surgery, surgery of odontogenic sinus maxillary diseases , oral radiology and oral medicine. Since 1991 Dr. Lambrecht volunteers to do surgery for underprivileged children with cleft lip and/or cleft palate of minimal income families in Indonesia (1991-1992), India (1994-2003), Bhutan (2005-2010), Kenia (2011-2013) and Mexico (2016) . All these volunteer missions are sponsored by his Rotary Club Basel-Riehen which he is an Honorary Member of and a Paul Harris Fellow.
Scientific Activities
J. Thomas Lambrecht is author of around 250 research publications (partially listed in PubMed) and reviews as well as book chapters. He is editor and co-editor of 11 text books. In basic research his interest was initialising the cell culture of human osteoclasts in vitro. In clinical research he was the first to generate three dimensional skeletal models of individuals based on CT, MRI and CBCT data in maxillofacial surgery. His books have appeared in English, Chinese Frenchand Italiantranslations.
