Introduction

Dean Copely (born August 28, 1989) is an American former competitive ice dancer. With Charlotte Lichtman, he is the 2011 World Junior bronze medalist and 2011 U.S. Junior champion.

Career

Dean Copely began skating in 1993. He was initially a singles skater and competed at intermediate level, coached by Priscilla Hill for six years. He began dabbling in ice dancing at the age of 12 when he teamed up with Rachel Siegel and competed with her on the juvenile level, as well as with Ashley Foy. He also briefly competed in juvenile pair skating with Meredith Pipkin.

Copely skated in novice and junior ice dance with Anastasia Cannuscio for two years until April 2008 when he decided to move to Canton, Michigan. He teamed up with Charlotte Lichtman after the 2008 Lake Placid Ice Dancing Championships. They train in Canton with Igor Shpilband and Marina Zueva. They began competing on the ISU Junior Grand Prix series during the 2009–10 season.

Lichtman and Copely won gold and bronze medals on the 2010–2011 ISU Junior Grand Prix series, and qualified for the JGP Final where they finished 5th. They won the U.S. Junior Championships. At Junior Worlds they won a bronze medal.

Lichtman and Copely announced the end of their partnership on April 27, 2012.He is currently attending college full time and coaching at local rinks.

Personal life

His sister, Katherine Copely, was also a competitive ice dancer.
