Introduction

Dawn Ades CBE, FBA (born May 1943) is professor emeritus of art history at the University of Essex.
Ades was born in May 1943. She graduated from the University of Oxford and studied art history at London's Courtauld Institute. She is a trustee of Tate, and Professor of the History of Art at the Royal Academy of Arts.
In 2013, she was awarded a CBE for services to art history.
Ades is married to the British poet and translator Timothy Adès. One of their sons is the composer, pianist and conductor Thomas Adès.
