Introduction

David Robert Malvern Monteith (born 5 June 1968) is a Church of England priest. He has been Dean of Leicester since 2013.

Early life

Monteith was born on 5 June 1968 in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland. He was educated at Portora Royal School, a grammar school in Enniskillen. He studied at St John's College Durham, and graduated from the University of Durham with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in 1989.

In 1990, Monteith entered St John's College, Nottingham, an Anglican theological college, to train for ordained ministry. During this time, he also studied theology at the University of Nottingham, and graduated with a Bachelor of Theology (BTh) degree in 1992.

Ordained ministry

He was ordained in 1994. After a curacy at All Saints’, Kings Heath he joined the staff of St Martin-in-the-Fields in 1997. He was Priest in charge of Holy Trinity, Wimbledon from 2002 to 2009 and Canon Chancellor of Leicester Cathedral from 2009 until his appointment as Dean.
