Introduction

Daniel Philip Waley was a British historian, archivist and professor; born in 1921. He was known for his books on the Middle Ages.

Waley was educated at King's College, Cambridge. During World War II he served in North Africa and Italy. From 1949 he taught at the London School of Economics where he lectured in Medieval History. After obtaining his doctorate in 1961 he became Reader in History in the University of London.

From 1970 to 1972 He was Professor of History at London School of Economics, University of London. After 1972 he was Keeper of Manuscripts at the British Library.
