Biography
Introduction
Dan Graur \ˈgrau̇-lər\ is an American scientist working in the fields of molecular evolution. He is the John and Rebecca Moores Professor at the University of Houston. He is coauthor along with Wen-Hsiung Li of Fundamentals of Molecular Evolution.
Education
In 1985 Graur received his Ph.D. at the University of Texas at Houston for research supervised by Masatoshi Nei.
Career
From 2009 to 2011 he has held the position of Councillor for the Society for Molecular Biology and Evolution. Graur is also a patron of the arts and has contributed to the yearly updated cover of the journal Molecular Biology and Evolution. Graur has, in recent years, been noted for his pointed criticisms of the ENCODE project.
Awards and honours
In 2011 Graur was awarded the Humboldt Prize.
