Biography
Introduction
Carl Gustaf Mauritz Nilsson, better known as Charles Redland (July 7, 1911, Södertälje - August 18, 1994, Stockholm) was a Swedish jazz saxophonist, bandleader, and composer.
Redland grew up in a musical family and learned to play a variety of instruments as a child. He was frequently active as a sideman in Swedish bands in the 1930s on saxophone, clarinet, trombone, and trumpet, and led his own bands, including on recordings, in the 1930s and subsequently.
Eventually, Redland became better known as a composer and arranger, working in jazz and popular music idioms. He also composed copiously for film.
