Carol Mutter

Carol Mutter is a retired United States Marine Corps lieutenant general. She was the first woman in the history of the United States Armed Forces to be appointed to a three-star grade.

Mutter joined the Marine Corps in 1967 as one of only three women in a company of 1,000 recruits at Parris Island Training Depot.

Mutter held a variety of command and staff positions throughout her career, including serving as the first woman commander of the Marine Corps Systems Command and the first woman to achieve the rank of lieutenant general in the Marine Corps.

Mutter is known for her pioneering role as a woman in the Marine Corps, breaking barriers and paving the way for future generations of women in the U.S. Armed Forces. She is also known for her exceptional leadership and command abilities.

During her career, Mutter received numerous awards and honors, including the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit with two gold stars, and the Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars. She was also inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame in 2011.
