Introduction

Bryan Davis (born  17 October 1974) is a British-born New York-based trumpet and flügelhorn player and educator. He has gained an international reputation as a Lead Trumpeter and is also highly regarded as a Jazz soloist.

Eaqrly life and Education

Bryan Davis was born on  17 October 1974 in Cleethorpes, England. 

He received his formal musical training at Leeds College of Music, Leeds, England. He learned to play the trumpet also from the British trumpeters J. Brian Brown, Richard IlesGerard Presencer, and Dick Hawdon; and American trumpeters Brian Lynch and Roger Ingram.

Career

In his early career, Davis played with several groups, ranging from the National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Great Britain to nightclub band Jazz Amiga and salsa group Casa Latina All-Stars.

In 2009, he emigrated to New York and has been a fixture on the New York jazz circuit since. 

Over the years he has performed and recorded with numerous American ensembles including Arturo O'Farrill & the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, Blood Sweat & Tears, the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Orrin Evans' Captain Black Big Band, the Eyal Vilner Big Band, the Birdland Big Band, Charlie Rosen's Broadway Big Band, the 8 Bit Big Band, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Mike Longo's NY State of the Art Jazz Ensemble, Mr. Ho's Orchestrotica, Gary Morgan's Panamericana, the Artie ShawOrchestra, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, and Danny Seraphine's California Transit Authority, among many others. 

In 2012, as part of trumpeter Brian Lynch's "Madera Latino" project, Davis recorded a Latin-Jazz Tribute to Woody Shaw, which was nominated for a Grammy following its 2016 release. In 2017, he also performed on the Grammy-winning recording "Familia" with Arturo O'Farrill & the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra featuring Chucho Valdes.

He has also worked as a freelancer with the Glenn Miller Orchestra UK, British bandleader Syd Lawrence's Orchestra, the BBC Big Band, American saxophonist Phil Woods, American trombonist Bill Watrous, Canadian trombonist Rob McConnell, the Three Degrees, the Supremes, and the Brasshoppers among others.

Davis also teaches trumpet on his website airflowmusic.com and on his YouTube channel Airflow Music, where he publishes 2 weekly video series, "Trumpet Pro Tips" and the "Exercise of the Week." Since late 2015, he has been an adjunct faculty member at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, in New York City.
