Introduction

Binod Baral, is a London based chef, food & restaurant consultant, entrepreneur and philanthropist. He co-owns two high street restaurants in London and is a founder of Asian Culinary Academy, London and Global Nepalese Chefs Forum.

Early life

Binod Baral was born in Pokhara in Nepal. Binod’s maternal family runs successful hotels in Nepal, the oldest one was established about 40 years ago. Post his schooling, Binod chose to become a restaurateur and set up his own hotel in Nepal in the year 1995.

Career

In 1999, Binod moved to London and joined Zarini Haute Cuisine, Kew Garden. In 2001, he joined Tamarind at Mayfair, as Head Chef of the Okra Team.

He has served as a head-chef (February 2003 to October 2008) at the likes of Pronto and The Bombay Bicycle Club. Pronto was based on the concept of delivering food to London within 20 minutes.

Currently, he is a chef consultant for Stella McCartney HQ and co-owns two popular Asian restaurants in London: Zumbura and Momo and Roti. He has also been appointed as Head of Food, Research and New Product Development Department for Nepal Food.

Founded in January 2018, the goal of the Asian Culinary Academy is to bridge the gap between the demand of Asian chefs and its shortage in the UK.

Earlier in 2018, Binod established a start-up to help and aid young entrepreneurs with various business potentials. He provides financial support to able business ideas, especially within the south-east Asian communities in London. He is the brand ambassador of Gurkha Beer.
