After Harvey Weinstein episode, Cameron Russell is helping women share their sexual abuse stories

Ever since the New York Times published the report sharing women's accounts of Harvey Weinstein's sexual abuse, more Hollywood actresses have come forward to reveal the dark side of the film industry. Their courage is inspiring women and men from other industries to speak up about their own experiences with sexual abuse. 

Fashion designer Donna Karan, who is a personal friend of Weinstein, initially defended Weinstein and blamed the victims instead, questioning the way women today dress and how much they "show." She later apologized after people around the country criticized her statement. 

After Hollywood, now the fashion industry is under scrutiny. Cameron Russell, a famed model, is using her Instagram to share stories of abuse in the fashion industry. She started the campaign on Instagram under the hashtag #MyJobShouldNotIncludeAbuse and models are using it to share their stories of sexual abuse. The sheer number of horrifying stories shared exposes the ugly underbelly of the fashion industry.

About Cameron Russell

Born in 1987, Boston, Cameron is an Economics and Political science graduate from Columbia University. Her mother, Robin Chase, is co-founder and former CEO of Zipcar.

Cameron began modeling as a part-time profession in 2003, at the age of 16. After taking on this profession full-time she has modeled for various celebrated designers and fashion houses including Chanel, Versace, Prada, Vivienne Westwood, Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs, Diane von Fürstenberg, Louis Vuitton, and Oscar de la Renta among others. She worked with successful photographers including Steven MeiselCraig McDean, and Nick Knight among others.

In October 2012, she delivered a TED talk, entitled "Looks aren't Everything. Believe me, I'm a Model," in which she talked about the fashion industry and her experience as a model. The talk, with over 20 million views, is one of the most popular speeches ever given at a TED conference.
