Servet A. Duran

Turkish-American engineer and educator

Servet A. Duran (1920 - 1996) was a Materials Science Professor at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington.

Short biography

Born in Turkey on 2 January 1920, Duran emigrated to the United States in 1941.
He graduated from the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy and Stanford University.

He began teaching physical metallurgy/materials science at the Washington State University in 1947. He was the chairman of the metallurgy department of the university for several years. There is a scholarship in his name at WSU.

From 1956 to 1958, he was a visiting professor at Stanford University, and in 1969, he was a visiting professor and consultant to Middle East Technical Institute in Ankara, Turkey.

In 1971, he wrote a book called "Introduction To Materials Science."


Duran died on 23 July 1996 from complications of pneumonia. He was 76.
