Introduction
Wendy Riche is an American television producer. She has been the executive producer of ABC Daytime's General Hospital and the co-creator and executive producer of its spinoff show Port Charles.
Early life and education
Riche was born on January 8, 1945, in New York City, New York. She is the niece of American actress Polly Bergen.
Riche attended Flushing High School in Queens, New York, and Syracuse University, New York.
Career
Riche married American film producer Alan Riche in 1966. After Alan quit his job as an agent, she went to work as a secretary at ABC in children's programming and got her start as an associate producer of ABC's late-night television series In Concert (1972) created by Don Kirshner.
From 1992 to 2001, she executive produced the TV series General Hospital (ABC), which won five Daytime Emmy Awards (1995-1997, 1999 & 2000.) Under Riche, the show gained critical acclaim for its sensitive handling of social issues. In 1994, Riche started an annual Nurses' Ball, a fundraiser and HIV/AIDS awareness event both on the show and in real life. Later that year, a heart transplantation storyline involves the death of eight-year-old B. J. Jones (daughter of Dr. Tony Jones and Bobbie Spencer) in a bus crash and the subsequent donation of her heart to her dying cousin Maxie Jones.
In 1997–2003, she produced the TV series Port Charles, starring Lynn Herring, Jon Lindstrom, Julie Pinson, and Jay Pickett.
In 2020, she produced the TV series yA with Chiara D'Ambrosio, Bianca D'Ambrosio, and Dante Aleksander.
Riche's most recent work was as a writer for the TV series The Bay, starring Kristos Andrews, Mary Beth Evans, and Tristan Rogers.
Personal life
Riche has been married to producer Alan Riche since December 4, 1966. They have two children.
