

Introduction
April Harper Grey (born April 21, 2000), known professionally as Underscores (stylized in lowercase), is an American musician.
Early life
Grey grew up in San Francisco. She became interested in composing and recording music at the age of six, and cites Skrillex as an early influence. She has Filipina heritage.
Career
Grey began releasing music as Underscores on SoundCloud in 2013 at the age of thirteen, however the first single still available from her is "Mild Season", which released in 2015.In 2016, she was featured as a finalist in a mix contest hosted by the electronic label Monstercat. In 2018, she independently released the collection Skin Purifying Treatment, which marked the current iteration of the project, followed by We Never Got Strawberry Cake in 2019 and Character Development! on San Holo's record label Bitbird in 2020.
She released her debut studio album, Fishmonger, in 2021. It features appearances from 8485, Knapsack (who now goes under the name Gabby Start), and Maxwell Young. It appeared on The Atlantic's list of the ten best albums of 2021, and drew the attention of several high-profile electronic and alternative musicians, such as Travis Barker of Blink-182, Glaive and Lido.
Fishmonger's follow-up EP, Boneyard AKA Fearmonger, was released in December 2021. It features production from Barker, as well as Brakence.
On March 23, 2022, The Atlantic expressed that Grey makes "music that is nonbinary both in form and in content".
Marking "the last piece of the Fishmonger era", Underscores released a single titled "Count of Three (You Can Eat $#@!)" through Dog Show Records, Atlantic Records, and her own imprint, Corporate RockMusic. The single released globally on January 20, 2023, featuring co-production work from Dylan Brady of 100 gecs (who founded and owns the Dog Show imprint), Benny Blanco, Cashmere Cat, and mixing from Serban Ghenea.
On May 3, 2023, Grey released a single titled "Cops and Robbers". The accompanying album, Wallsocket, was officially announced on July 12, 2023, along with the single "Locals (Girls Like Us)" with Gabby Start, a frequent collaborator and close friend of Grey. Wallsocket was released on September 22, 2023, on Mom + Pop and Corporate RockMusic. Alongside Start, the album also includes features from Jane Remover and Henhouse!.
In 2021, Grey toured as an opening act for 100 gecs. Underscores' first headlining tour, The Gone Fishin' Minitour, took place in 2022. Her second headlining tour, the Hometown Tour, was announced on June 7, 2023 and is intended to align with the release and promotion of Wallsocket.
Other projects
Grey is a member of several electronic music groups, including the group Six Impala, the online music collective FromTheHeart (which disbanded in late 2020), and the group CurryRice with fellow Six Impala member Script.
She also releases experimental remixes and original music under the pseudonym Milkfish on the streaming service SoundCloud, and occasionally plays live events as Milkfish through broadcasters such as Boiler Room.
