Introduction
Muneyoshi Tamura (田村宗良, Muneyoshi Tamura) (June 11, 1637 – May 16, 1678) was a Japanese daimyo of the Edo period. He was the first lord of the Iwanuma Domain in Mutsu Province.
Life
On June 11, 1637, Kamechiyo (亀千代) was born to Tadamune Date, the second lord of Sendai, and Fusa, the daughter of Matauemon Mitamura. Since 1639, under his father's orders, he was raised by Motonobu Suzuki, a vassal of Sendai, in Ōsaki, Shida, to suceed the Suzuki family. In 1649, he changed his name to Muneyoshi Suzuki (鈴木宗良, Muneyoshi Suzuki).
The Tamura clan was revived in 1653, as requested by Megohime (Muneyoshi's grandmother, Masamune Date's wife) via her will, and the clan was given 100,000 koku in Iwagasaki, Kurihara, with Muneyoshi appointed as the head. When the young Date Tsunamura was appointed a lord of Sendai in 1660, Muneyoshi settled himself into Ichinoseki domain in Mutsu province. In addition, he became a guardian of Tsunamura with Munekatsu Date. In 1662, Muneyoshi was transferred to Iwanuma in the Natori District. He became the first lord of the Iwanuma Domain as an internally divided branch. According to waka written about him, Muneyoshi had a mild personality and was popular. There was also a weak aspect, he pursued his professionalism due to active spiritualism. He was appointed to Oki Province in 1670.
On May 16, 1678, Muneyoshi died at the age of 42.
