Introduction

Sun Xueling (simplified Chinese: 孙雪玲; traditional Chinese: 孫雪玲; pinyin: Sūn Xuě Líng; born 1979) is a Singaporean politician. A member of the country's governing People's Action Party (PAP), she has been serving as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Pasir Ris-Punggol Group Representation Constituency since September 2015.

Education

Sun graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Upper Honours) in Economics. She also completed her Master of Science in International Political Economy with Merit in 2003 from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Career

Sun joined the Economic Development Board of Singapore in 2003 before joining Development Bank of Singapore as an assistant vice-president. She was also senior vice-president in Macquarie Capital Securities HK and director of Deutsche Bank Hong Kong. Sun serves on the Temasek Holdings board as an investment director since June 2014, and is also the chief executive officer of non-profit organisation Business China. In her corporate role, her focus areas include looking for companies that create value and are growing.

Political career

Before 2015, Sun is a long-time grassroots volunteer in the Women's Wing of the People's Action Party at Buona Vista, and is an advocate of women and mothers' rights. She was also the assistant secretary of the Youth Sub-Committee of the Buona Vista CCC in 2004 and assistant secretary of the Buona Vista CCC in 2006.

In 2015, the People's Action Party (PAP) announced that Sun would contest in the Pasir Ris-Punggol Group Representation Constituency during the 2015 general election after being introduced during a tree planting event. She now serves as member of parliament for Punggol West. Sun also serves as the North East District Adviser in Singapore, and as deputy chairperson of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Communications and Information.
