Introduction
Stacy Schusterman (born 1963) is a businesswoman and philanthropist. She is the Chief Executive Officer of Samson Energy Company, LLC, and the Chair of Charles Schusterman and Lynn Schusterman Family Philanthropies.
Early life
Stacy Schusterman was born and grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her father, Charles Schusterman, was the founder of the Samson Investment Company. Her parents, Charles and Lynn Schusterman, founded Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation in 1987. Today, the organization operates under the name Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Philanthropies.
Schusterman graduated from Yale University in 1985. She later received an MBA from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin.
Philanthropy
Schusterman joined her mother, Lynn Schusterman, as co-chair of Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Philanthropies in 2011. In 2018 her mother transitioned to Chair Emeritus and Stacy became Chair.
The organization’s mission is to achieve more just and inclusive societies in the U.S. and Israel. The geographical focus is across the United States and in Israel. Stacy’s philanthropic priorities include investments in criminal justice, democracy and voting rights, K-12 public education, gender and reproductive equity, as well as building on the work her parents began to strengthen the Jewish community, Israel and the family’s hometown of Tulsa, OK.
In 2022, together with her mother Lynn, Stacy received the Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy, which seeks to inspire a culture of giving by elevating the importance of philanthropy for the good of society.
Business Career
Schusterman started her career at her father's side in Samson Investment Company in 1988. She served as its chief executive officer from 2000 to 2011, when she sold it to a consortium led by KKR for US$7.2 billion.
After the buyout, Schusterman founded Samson Energy Company, LLC and she serves as the chief executive officer.
Stacy, her father, Charles, and Michael Dardick co-founded Granite Properties in 1991, a Plano, Texas-based real estate investment company.
