Introduction

Patrick Marcil is a Canadian sifu (師傅 traditional) under Sijo Jacques Patenaude, in Fangshendo, a derived form of modified Wing Chung known as Jeet Kune Do. Marcil is the mentor and longtime trainer of Canadian Lethwei World Champion Dave Leduc. Marcil trains numerous professional MMA fighters in Gatineau, Canada. Marcil's coaching was featured in Jet Li's new website,, VICE, Le Droit, Myanmar Times, Asia Times and La Presse.

Martial arts career

In 1994, Patrick Marcil along with Stephane Patenaude opened their first Kung Fu school in Orleans and shortly after, their second school in Gatineau, Quebec.

In 2003, in early days of mixed martial arts, Marcil fought in Laval, Canada winning his fight with a TKO at 2:17 in the first round. At 165 pounds, the 26-year-old Marcil was supposed to battle in the 160-pound-or-less category, but instead faced an undefeated 180-pound opponent.

Notable student

In 2009, Patrick Marcil began teaching Sanshou to Dave Leduc at Kung Fu Patenaude in Gatineau, In the Myanmar Times, Leduc explains how, with Marcil, his mentor from day one, they were always training very aggressively, bareknuckle, like in Lethwei. Under Marcil, with no prior knowledge of martial arts, Leduc learned the fighting principles of Jeet Kune Do and developed into one of the greatest talents of Canada.

In 2016, Dave Leduc underwent a rigorous training camp with Marcil, before his fight with Too Too, and for his Lethwei World title victory.
