Introduction

Sean Patrick McDonnell (born October 15, 1956) is an American football coach and former player. He has been the head football coach at the University of New Hampshire since 1999. From August 2019 to March 2020, McDonnell took a leave of absence for medical reasons, with associate head coach Ricky Santos acting as interim head coach for the 2019 season.

McDonnell won Eddie Robinson Award 2005 and 2014, which is given annually to the top head coach in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). He lives in Durham, New Hampshire.
