Introduction

Ruth Aylett (born 1951, London) is a British author, professor, and politician. She is a professor of Computer Science at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, where she is also a member of Edinburgh South Constituency Labour Party.

She studied economics at the London School of Economics. Subsequently, she worked in computing and robotics at Sheffield Hallam University, the University of Edinburgh and the Centre for Virtual Environments at University of Salford. She wrote Robots, a popular science book.

Family

She is the mother of writer and activist Owen Jones.
