Nicole Byer
Introduction
Nicole Byer is a comedian and actress who stars in the scripted comedy based on her life, Loosely Exactly Nicole, as well as prank show Ladylike. Byer has also appeared in the sketch-comedy series Party Over Here, reality show Girl Code, and the Upright Citizens Brigade.
Early life
Byer moved to New York City after high school, waitressing and taking classes at the Upright Citizens Brigade before moving to Los Angeles in 2012.
Career
The Ringer describes Byer's comedy as "most easily compared to a raunchier Retta with a hint of Ilana Glazer’s madcap energy. She’s mouthy, vulgar, a little bit goofy, relatable but ridiculously charming, and not afraid to infuse her broad comedy with a confident sexuality." USA Today says "it's precisely her brazen, ribald brand of comedy that landed her in the creative incubator that is MTV, where she toplines two new comedy shows" in 2016, Ladylike and Loosely Exactly Nicole.
Web series
Byer and Sasheer Zamata created a web series called Pursuit of Sexiness. The Daily Dot called it a "must-see".
Television
Byer appears on the MTV reality show Girl Code, where Bustle says she is a "beloved talking head"; The Washington Post called Byer "one of the most dependably funny commentators" on the show. She also hosted MTV's Are You the One? The Aftermatch Live, an after-show for the second season of Are You the One?.
In 2016, Byer starred with Jessica McKenna and Alison Rich in the Fox series Party Over Here. The half-hour sketch comedy, which aired on Saturday nights for one season, was created by Paul Scheer and Lonely Island (Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone).
Byer has also starred with Jade Catta-Preta and Matteo Lane in a hidden-camera prank show on MTV called Ladylike.
Loosely Exactly Nicole is a scripted, single-camera comedy based on Byer's own life. Jezebel describes the premise as a "comedic look on [Byer's] life as a black actress struggling to make it in Hollywood." Loosely, Exactly Nicole premiered September 5, 2016 on MTV.
