Introduction

Nick Hakim is an American musician based in Brooklyn, New York. He has released two EPs and one full length album, Green Twins, which was released on ATO Records in May 2017.

Early Life and Education

Nick Hakim was raised in Washington, DC by his parents, two Peruvian immigrants. He struggled in school early on and was placed in special education classes. In sixth grade, he couldn't tell time and didn't know the months in order. At 17, a friend invited him to sing with her church choir, where Hakim taught himself to play piano. Soon after, he was accepted to Berklee College of Music, an institution he went on to graduate from.

Career

Nick Hakim self-released his debut EP, Where Will We Go (Pt I & II) in 2014.

In 2017, he released Green Twins through ATO Records and toured internationally. The album went on to earn critical acclaim by media outlets incluidng Pitchfork and The Guardian, and was named one of the Ten Best R&B Albums of 2017 by NPR. Vice called it a "soulful, psychedelic experience".

In 2018, Hakim performed on NPR's Tiny Desk Concerts.

His song "Needy Bees" was featured in an episode of HBO's Insecure.
