Introduction
Michele B. Chan is an American philanthropist and former actress best noted for roles as "Dr. Donna Chen" on the Canadian series, Danger Bay, and as "Mei Jan" on the ABC television, MacGyver, during the 1980s.
Acting career
Chan made her screen debut in October 1985, playing the recurring role of "Dr. Donna Chen" in the TV series Danger Bay. She was seen in 42 episodes through 1990. The following year, she was cast as "Nancy Kim" on ABC's TV series Hotel, starring James Brolin, Connie Sellecca, and Nathan Cook, among others. She was seen in 6 episodes of the series.
In 1989, Chan starred as "Chan Lee" in Cedric Sundstrom's action movie American Ninja 3: Blood Hunt, alongside David Bradley and Steve James. The same year, she was seen in another film — Michael Pressman's Man Against the Mob: The Chinatown Murders (as Mei Ling).
Chan is perhaps best known for her role in the series MacGyver as "Mei Jan," who impersonated MacGyver's (Richard Dean Anderson) deceased foster daughter "Sue Ling." In the series, she enlisted MacGyver's help in completing her mission for the Chinese student movement.
Personal life
Chan is married to South African-born American billionaire surgeon and businessman Patrick Soon-Shiong. Shiong is also a minority owner of the Los Angeles Lakers since 2010, and since June 2018, he has been the owner and executive chairman of the Los Angeles Times and The San Diego Union-Tribune.
