Introduction

Matt Schnell (born, January 15, 1990) is a American mixed martial arts fighter, currently fighting for the UFC and is the former flyweight champion of the Legacy Fighting Alliance.

Legacy Fighting Championship

Schnell joined Legacy Fighting Championship in 2015 and went 3-0 before joining the cast for The Ultimate Fighter season 24.

The Ultimate Fighter : Tournament of Champions

On May 11, 2016, the UFC announced that the 16 contestants for the season of this TUF would be flyweight champion fighters from various organizations around the world, with the winner being expected to have a chance to fight for the flyweight title against Demetrious Johnson.The cast was announced on July 20. The coaches for the season were the former challengers to the flyweight belt, Joseph Benavidez and Henry Cejudo, and Schnell was selected for Team Cejudo.

Schnell seeded at #6 faced #11 Matt Rizzo and defeated him in the second round, via submission (triangle choke).

Schnell advanced to the quarter finals and faced #3 seed Tim Elliott. Matt lost the fight via first round submission (bulldog choke). Tim went to eventually win the show.

UFC

After his stint on The Ultimate Fighter, Schnell was chosen as one of the cast mates to get a contract. He fought Rob Font in the Bantamweight division at The Ultimate Fighter: Tournament of Champions Finale and lost via 1st round KO.

Matt returned to the flyweight division and faced Hector Sandoval at UFC Fight Night: Swanson vs. Lobov and lost via TKO.

Matt is slated to return at UFC 216 against Marco Beltrán in the flyweight division.
