Introduction

Marc Chouinard (born May 6, 1977) is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre-winger who most recently played for Kölner Haie. He has not formally announced his retirement, but has not played in over two and a half seasons.

Career

Born in Charlesbourg, Quebec, Chouinard started his career in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in 1993. After two successful seasons, he was drafted in the second round, 32nd overall by the Winnipeg Jets during the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. He never played for the Jets, as was later traded to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. After three years with the team's American Hockey League affiliate, the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, Chouinard was called up during the 2000–01 NHL season.

His success in the minors did not translate into NHL success, as his slow skating abilities hampered his scoring potential. He is used primarily as a checking line centre, used to kill off penalties and to shut down the opposing teams' top forwards. He has, however, had some success on the power play, as his large 6'5" frame is difficult for the opposing team's defenceman to move when placed in front of the net.
