Biography

Leo van Heil (1605 – c.1664), was a Flemish Baroque painter.
According to Cornelis de Bie, Leo van Heil was a Flemish painter who specialized in flowers and insects, who had two famous brothers; his brother Jan Baptist van Heil was a portrait painter considered the best of the three, and his brother Daniel van Heil specialized in landscapes with winter scenes or burning fires.
According to his picture in Het Gulden Cabinet, he not only painted flowers and insects, but he was good at other small animals, buildings, and drawing perspectives (the example in his hand is an archway).
