Introduction

Laura Weightman (born 1 July 1991 in Alnwick) is a British middle-distance runner who competes in the 1500 metres. She reached the final at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and was again in the final at the Rio Olympics. Weightman won the Silver Medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

She is coached by Steve Cram, former world 1500 m record holder and Olympic silver medalist. Previously coached by Mike Bateman from Morpeth Harriers.

Early life and education

Weightman was born on 1 July 1991 in Alnwick, Northumberland, England. She was educated at The Duchess's Community High School, a state comprehensive school in the market town of Alnwick. She is currently living in Leeds training full-time after graduating with a Sport and Exercise Science degree from Leeds Metropolitan University in May 2013.
