Introduction
Corey Baker, also known professionally as Kill Paris, is an American DJ and record producer based in Colorado. His debut studio album Galaxies Between Us was released on April 14, 2015, via Sexy Electric.
Career
Baker started playing the guitar at the age of 15 and later took lessons for piano, bass and percussion. He began using the stage name Kill Paris in 2012. In 2013, he released his debut EP To A New Earth via Owsla and a year later his second EP Foreplay via the same label. In 2014, he was featured as a producer on the Lindsey Stirling album Shatter Me for the fifth song titled "Heist". He later launched his own label and management, Sexy Electric, and released his debut studio album Galaxies Between Us in 2015. After using Kill Paris, a stage name inspired by a character from Romeo and Juliet, for many years, Baker announced an official name change in response to the November 2015 Paris attacks that have brought him negative responses and condemnations within the electronic dance music community. The stage name was likened to having a dangerous message and Baker was urged to use another as a form of respect for the Paris victims.
He announced on Facebook his new stage name Chill Harris, stating:
Since then, I truly felt like the floor had fallen out from underneath me. The project that I had spent 13 years working on was gone. Changing the name to Chill Harris felt right at the time, but I felt weird releasing any music under the name. I felt the people who really followed kill paris were confused. Hell, I was confused! So after having time to reflect, I’m convinced going back to kill paris is the right thing to do
— Kill Paris, November 4, 2016
As Chill Harris, his first track was a remix of "Stop Trippin" by GRiZ in January 2016. In 2016, he reverted his stage name to Kill Paris, citing his dissatisfaction with Chill Harris as he "never fully felt like himself" using the name. That year, he released the single "Junkie" featuring Nevve and Monstre, and was featured on the Dolan Twins' song "Catch You" which was included in their album Tunesdays. In March 2018, he released the song "Made of Time" featuring Trove and Emily Vaughn. Regarding it, he stated that "I really liked the idea of being 'made of time' for someone. At the end of the day, time is all relative, and if you spend time with the one you love, it can seem like there's no such thing as time." In August 2018, he released the song "Two Minds" featuring Tim Moyo via the Canadian electronic music record label Monstercat. In November 2018, his remix of Alison Wonderland's "Easy" was included in the official remixes EP for her album Awake.
